Commonly Asked Questions

How can I have doves released if I’m having a church wedding? Following the ceremony, the birds can be released outside of the church in place of bird seed, confetti, or bubbles. They may also be released at the reception center or any other place that will enhance your celebration.

What happens to the doves when they are released? During the release they will circle overhead a few times to find where they are and then will fly back to their loft.

Can doves be released indoors? No, it is not safe for the doves. There is too high of a risk for injury from lights or other obstacles. They can however be a beautiful display indoors.

Will the birds make a mess? While we can not make promises against a call of nature, we keep our birds on a special diet. Keep in mind, we are dealing with live animals.

When can the birds be released? For the safety of the birds, they can only be released during daylight hours, up to two hours before sunset, depending on your location. We will not allow our birds to fly during inclement weather.

Who will conduct my release? A release coordinator from Pleasant Valley Wings of Love will arrive a half hour before the event. We will be dressed appropriate and prepared for your release.

What types of doves are released and displayed? Our release birds, also known as rock doves, are from white racing pigeon stock and are banded for identification. Our display doves are pure white homing pigeons.

Can I have birds shipped to me for release? No. Our birds must always be accompanied by a trained handler and will not be released beyond a range that they are able to safely fly.

What happens if the weather prevents a release at my event? You will be fully refunded if we are unable to make arrangements to display doves indoors at your event.

How can I incorporate the doves into my plans? To make the dove release special you can include them in your wedding program or have a dove theme wedding. Many share a poem before the release. Also, to make it even more special, each bird can symbolize a loved one. The ideas are endless.
